Why, in our modern age, do we shy away from something God made to support our lives? Our ancestors would spend a copious amount of time in the sunlight during daily activities and go to sleep in differing degrees of darkness. Instead, today we do the exact opposite. We spend our lives indoors, exposed to different types of artificial light. We might go outside for a few minutes, briefly exposing ourselves to natural light. Too bad most of us are entirely covered up with clothing, wearing sunscreen, or wearing sunglasses. We bathe in artificial blue light at night, driving the darkness from our homes and cities. Many people suffer from low vitamin D levels, hindered neurotransmitter production/utilization, and sleep poorly at night. We are exposed to the wrong type of light during the day and bathe ourselves in artificial light at night for convenience. The abundant exposure to artificial light leaves us wired and tired, destroying our circadian rhythm and ultimately our health. We should have known better. We took artificial light for granted because of convenience, and in doing so, we polluted God’s world.
