One night when I was watching clips of the television show Hoarders , I had a breakthrough. People on the show live in horrid conditions. Hoarders choose to live in situations that continue to make themselves ill. Psychologists would primarily say it is only because of their mental health issues that Hoarders continue to live in contaminated environments. Mold in their house and problems with their microbiome could cause them to continue to live in filth. Welcome to my pet mold.
You have moldy curtains in your living room and have suffered from different health issues for years. The mold consistently releases mycotoxins and spores into the air; you breathe them in. At first, you developed a runny nose, a slight cough, and had to give up a few of your favorite foods due to digestive issues. Oh well, who needs pizza, you need to lose a few pounds anyway. Eventually, you develop severe brain fog and anxiety, and your digestive symptoms worsen. You visit numerous doctors who tell you your blood work is exemplary. Everyone says you look the healthiest in your life, you have lost some weight, but you feel horrible. Your supposed health issues must be all in your head, the anxiety, the depression, the sleepless nights, just like the therapist claims. You start researching your illness online and eventually match your symptoms to environmental biotoxin illness. You now know the moldy curtains within your home are a serious problem, yet you panic about how to clean up the mold contamination properly. You feel very ill and suffer from constant panic attacks; you think if you even clean up the mold, will you recover? Days turn into weeks, and your moldy curtains still hang; your symptoms have not improved; they are worse. You have a new pet in the home; its name is mold.
