The Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police has been investigating The Finders Network since at least the mid-1970s, according to Finders member Tobe Terrell in his book, The Gamecaller. In his book, Terrell recounts numerous raids and interactions between The Finders and the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police before and after the Tallahassee incident. Most of the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Finders raids and interactions occurred at or around The Finders Washington D.C. warehouse.[1]

Tobe Terrell writes that on June 1975, Finders member George Pettie found a warehouse to serve as the new base for The Finders Network. This warehouse, located at 1307 4th Street, NE, in Washington D.C., was in the Union Market District near the intersection of Florida Avenue and New York Avenue. The Finders proposed to purchase the warehouse property, and the real estate transaction was finalized on July 4, 1975. The warehouse was reportedly owned by two brothers named “Schaeffer,” whose family had operated a wholesale fish business at the site since it was built in 1931. By 1977, the women of The Finders lived at The Finders W Street apartments, while the men resided within the warehouse.[2]
