One of the central mysteries surrounding The Finders is the death of one of their members, Barbara Sylvester, who died from a supposed ruptured appendix on January 23, 1982. Tobe Terrell wrote that Barbara was feeling ill during December 1980, and Marion Pettie sent her and some of The Finders to Houston, Texas to see if the warmer weather would improve her health. Terrell stated that The Finders pleaded with her to go visit a hospital as her condition worsened.
