Dr. Carl Betz Shapley was born in 1927 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on the campus of Harvard University. Carl’s parents, Harlow and Martha Shapley, were famous astronomers, and Harlow was the Director of the Harvard College Observatory. Towards the end of World War II, Harlow was a co-founder of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and later lobbied for the eventual establishment of the National Science Foundation. Carl’s brother Lloyd Shapley was a famous game theorist, and Nobel prize winner in Economics who was drafted into the United States Army Air Corps during World War Two and worked for the RAND Corporation for decades. Carl was a Doctor of Philosophy on Ontology and Education, a Noetic scientist, and a self-proclaimed 1st century Gnostic. Carl stated in a Defining Moment interview with Ajay Rai that “Maybe I am a little bit closer to Dan Brown when he writes about things, not only about the DaVinci Code but how the sciences have restricted our vision about what is going on.”[1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]
